Our annual Gaerte Fish Fry & Tenderloin Supper will be held on Saturday, February 25th at the Whitley County 4-H Center. We will serve from 4:00 – 7:00, or until we run out.
Advance tickets - Adults $8.50
child (4 – 12) $3.50

At the door - Adults $9.00
child (4 – 12) $4.00.
Please call the school at 248-4872 or contact one of our students or supporting businesses to purchase advance tickets.

2011 FCA Christmas Program

Our program is Thursday the 15th at Trinity EPC on Business 30 West at 7:00. We will have our practice from 1:00-3:00 that same afternoon, also at Trinity. We will need drivers to help us get everyone there. If you are able to drive both ways, please let me know as soon as possible. The Preschool will NOT meet in the morning, but we would like to have all Preschoolers meet AT THE CHURCH at 1:00 for the practice. The program is at 7:00, with cookies and punch to follow. Denise Johnson will again head this up and will be contacting you in the near future for help. Also remember we will have a 2 HOUR DELAY on the 17th to allow everybody a little extra time after the program.

Open House/ First Day of School

     Is it really just a few weeks until our classes start again – the answer is a resounding YES!! Classes begin on Wednesday the 24th. We will have an open house on Tuesday night the 23rd from 5:30 – 7:30. We will meet in the chapel at 6:15 for an orientation meeting.
     We will need to have more forms filled out. We want to be sure there are no changes in who can pick up your children; what medications we may dispense; what allergies they might have developed, etc.
      I want to assure you all, Faith Christian Academy will continue to be a place where your student learns lessons about Reading, Writing, Arithmetic, Social Studies, Music, Art and the love of the Lord Jesus Christ for humanity, and for us personally

Faith Christian Academy begins its 17th year of classes in Whitley County. FCA is Whitley County’s only interdenominational Christian School and begins this year with 41 total students. These students are from preschool thru eight grade. The staff is the same as last year, with one exception. Mrs. Jean Graham has returned to Haiti with her husband to resume work as missionaries. Mrs. Lisa Shivley begins her 10th year as the Preschool teacher; Mrs. Deanna Thompson begins her 2nd year as the Kindergarten and 1st grade teacher; Mrs. Karen VanVoorst begins her 15th year with FCA as the 3rd, 4th & 5th grade teacher; Mrs. Sue Lewis begins her 3rd year as Middle School teacher, but has taught at FCA for a total of 8 years. Larry Schmoekel begins his 3rd year as the school’s administrator. “We have a great group of students again this year,” said Schmoekel. “New students have brought a sense of excitement, and the returning students also have a sense of wanting to learn about God’s world.

That most favorite event of the summer is almost upon us - yes I am talking about Old Settlers Days. Faith Christian Academy again will ply the populace of Columbia City with taste tempting, mouth watering homemade strawberry shortcake and whipped cream! It is fruit and dairy - so it is practically a health food! Look for the tent and come prepared to buy and eat, and support the only Inter-denominational Christian School in Whitley County.

The Zoo is Coming To FCA

Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo is coming to Faith Christian Academy – Friday March 12th.
There will be three separate programs presented by Zoo Staff. The 3rd & 4th Grade will see “Who Needs Habitat?” The Middle School will learn about “Wildlife for Sale” and the impact of the international wildlife trade. The Preschool, K, 1st, 2nd & 3rd grades will see “Amazing Animals” This fun day is part of a Dekko Grant.

Faith Christian Academy students feel a special bond to help the victims of the Haiti earthquake. One of their teachers had lived in Haiti for the last 3 years. Mrs. Jean Graham’s husband Jeff served with the CSI orphanage there. A medical clinic, also run by CSI, is very close to the orphanage. The students wanted to do something to help, so Mrs. Karen Van Voorst, another teacher at FCA helped the students organize a craft/bake sale held during the Annual FCA Fish Fry & Tenderloin Dinner. The whole school got involved! The preschoolers made pinecone bird feeders. The Kindergarten class made original cookbooks (and some of the recipes are priceless). The first & second grade, and middle school made items for a bake sale. Mrs. Van Voorst’s 3rd & 4th grade class made baskets filled with books, stuffed animals, and knitted items. They even had 16 boo-boo bunnies. Almost all of the items sold – and best of all, the incredible amount of 37,827 pennies was raised! That’s $ 378.27 with decimal point. What a joy to see this amount go directly to provide aid to those who have real needs. If you would like to donate, contact the school at 260-248-4872,

Once again, the gracious support for Faith Christian Academy from Whitley County during our recent fish and tenderloin fry was outstanding. Les & Marcy Gaerte did their usual fine job in frying 350 pounds of fish and 150 pounds of pork tenderloin. We are thankful to these fine eateries who each contributed products for us to serve: Better Than Grandmas Bakery, Big G’s, Brevin’s Downtown Restaurant, Crossraods, Columbia City Dairy Queen, Eagles Nest Event Center, Egolf’s IGA, McDonald’s in Churubusco, Mountain Top Coffee House, Northside Grill, Pizza Hut; Ramble Inn, Richard’s; Subway on east Chicago Street in Columbia City and Wendy’s. We served over 469 guests this year. A great time was had by all – and we enjoyed especially great food. The parents and staff of FCA also did a great job – breading that much fish is really a long job.

School Pizza Sale for Super Bowl Weekend

On Saturday February 6th the Parents Group, staff, and students of Faith Christian Academy will be putting together 16 inch pizzas. They are double cheese, pepperoni, and 3 meat – and each is only $ 10.00! “The number one pizza eating day in America is Super Bowl Sunday,” said Schmoekel. “And we want to provide folks around with GREAT pizza for the day!” These are a “take & bake” pizza. They will not be frozen, but can be frozen to use later. “These are really quality pizzas” said Schmoekel, who ought to know pizzas – he was the first manager at the SAM’S Club Café – and they lead the state in pizza sales. You can order your pizzas from any of the students of Faith Christian Academy – or call the school at 260-248-4872. You will need to pick up the pizzas on Saturday – or make special arrangements.

Our School attended the 64th annual Mizpah Shrine Circus last Friday. This is an annual tradition that the children love. Thanks go out to the Shriners for the tickets!

GAERTE FISH FRY AND TENDERLOIN DINNER

Faith Christian Academy will have their annual All-u-can-eat Fish Fry and Tenderloin Dinner on Saturday Feb.27. The dinner will again be at the Whitley County 4-H Center. It will be served from 4-7. The cost of advanced tickets is $ 8.00 adults, youth from 4-12 $ 3.50, and under 3 free. Tickets day of will be adult $ 8.50, Youth $ 4.00. Carry-out is also available.
